Prof. Allen - English 101 - Fall 2019: Find Books/Media

Read the whole book? NOT!

Your assignment requires you to use books as sources. Remember that means you need to find relevant, authoritative ideas that add to what you know and understand about your topic ... and that means you can cite the book in your paper when you only use a chapter or a section.  Use the Table of Contents and/or the Index to find just those most useful sections of the book.

Skim the index from A-Z. Let you eye rest on any word or phrase that seems related to your topic. This might be a direct connection or not. Check the pages to see if the text adds to your knowledge of your topic. Read a bit before and a bit after the exact page(s) listed in the index. Be thorough.

How to Find Books and Media

Search the library catalog to find Books and other Media in the Harold L. Drimmer Library.

Enter your keyword search in the box below to search the Harold L. Drimmer Library's catalog for Books, DVDs, CDs, or eBooks.

Use your keywords to find books on your topic. E.g. search Norse AND Scandinavia to find books about bias in the criminal justice system.

If your first search doesn't turn up many results, try changing your keywords (e.g. search Vikings  instead of Norse).

Enter your search terms and click SEARCH. Click on a title for more information. Look at the table of contents or description to see if the book might be helpful.

To find the book on the WCC Library shelves, you will need the CALL NUMBER and LOCATION.

Circulating items can be checked out for 3 weeks with your WCC ID.

REFERENCE  and RESERVE books are on the first floor and must be used in the library.

Books with the location CIRCULATING COLLECTION are on the second and third floors.

Some books are available online as an ebook. Ebooks are exactly the same as their print counterparts. A limited amount of printing and downloading is usually allowed depending on title. For off campus access log in with your MyWCC username/pswd.
