Prof. Burns: FALL 2020; Eng. 101: Home

Welcome! This research guide was created for students in Prof. Burns' English 101 class.

This guide is a customized resource for this assignment, and I encourage you to refer to it as you conduct your research.

Your assignment is to write a 7-9-page argumentative Research Essay on a topic of your choice. The topic you choose should be a debatable subject / topic. You are required to create a thesis, and support this thesis with credible research.

An argumentative essay presents the reader with relevant reasons for the position you have taken on your topic, and provides credible facts, and sufficient evidence to support that you have a valid perspective on your topic.

You will need to locate authoritative sources and integrate them into the text of your paper.

Citing your sources correctly is an important component of any research assignment. Your essay should include parenthetical (in-text) citations and a Works Cited page using MLA 8 style formatting.

If you have any questions about research and citations, please feel free to contact me at
