Gov. Cuomo requiring NYers to wear masks in public at all times

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today [4/15] announced he will issue an Executive Order requiring all people in New York to wear a mask or a face covering when out in public and in situations where social distancing cannot be maintained, such as on public transportation. The Executive Order will go into effect on Friday, April 17th.

CDC Recommendation

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends wearing cloth face covers in public where proper social distancing protocol is difficult to maintain. Cloth face covering help slow the spread of the virus particularly by those who may be asymptomatic.

Due to the critical shortage of medical grade masks and other personal protective equipment (PPEs) the CDC asks that those supplies be reserved for health care workers and first responders.

The wearing of a cloth face covering does not prevent the wearer from contracting the virus or passing the virus to another, but is an additional layer of protection. Current social distancing protocols still need to be followed. Cloth face coverings should be washed in a washing machine on a regular basis after use.

When removing a face covering, refrain from touching eyes, nose and mouth and wash hands immediately afterwards.
